Palakkad Institute of Medical Sciences is an empanelled Hospital for providing treatment under the Government sponsored Treatment Scheme of Karunya Benevolent Fund.
Thousands of patients have already availed treatment under this scheme from Palakkad Institute of Medical Sciences . Karunya Card Holders who inform their Card Details to the Registration Desk at the time of admission can avail this service from PIMS.
The scheme is intended to provide comprehensive health insurance coverage to all serving employees of the State Government including the High Court of Kerala who are covered under the existing Kerala Government Servants Medical Attendant Rules [KGSMA Rules, 1960] and pensioners. This also includes newly recruited employees and their family, part time contingent employees, part time teachers, teaching, non-teaching staff of aided schools and colleges and their family and pensioners and their spouses and family pensioners on compulsory basis, and all Civil Service officers serving under the Government of Kerala on optional basis.
The promulgation of Employees' State Insurance Act, 1948(ESI Act), by the Parliament was the first major legislation on social Security for workers in independent India. The deployment of manpower in manufacturing processes was limited to a few select industries such as jute, textile, chemicals etc. The legislation on creation and development of a fool proof multi-dimensional Social Security system, when the country's economy was in a very fledgling state was obviously a remarkable gesture towards the socio economic amelioration of a workface though limited in number and geographic distribution. India, notwithstanding, thus, took the lead in providing organized social protection to the working class through statutory provisions.
