Experience: Resident of Obstetrics and Gynecologist at Siriraj Hospital
Dr. Joy Patricia Pushparani is a distinguished academician and public health expert with a deep commitment to community-oriented medical education and preventive healthcare. She joined our institution in 2025 as Professor and Head of the Department of Community Medicine, bringing with her a wealth of experience from some of the most respected medical institutions in South India.
She completed her MBBS in 1985 from the prestigious Christian Medical College, Vellore — one of India’s most renowned institutions for medical training and healthcare delivery. With a passion for community health and preventive medicine, she later pursued her MD in Community Medicine from Madras Medical College, Chennai, in 2008.
Dr. Pushparani began her academic career as a Tutor at Madras Medical College, where she laid the foundation for a lifelong career in public health education. Over the years, she has held various faculty positions in multiple government medical colleges, including roles as Associate Professor at Government Theni Medical College and Government Thiruvarur Medical College.
She later advanced to the position of Professor, contributing significantly to both academic and field-based community health programs at institutions such as Government Thiruvarur Medical College and her alma mater, Madras Medical College, Chennai. Her teaching methodology blends rigorous academic knowledge with practical, field-level public health experience, greatly enriching the student learning experience.
Prior to joining our institution, Dr. Pushparani served as Professor and Head of the Department of Community Medicine at Karuna Medical College, Chittur, Palakkad. In this leadership role, she played a pivotal part in curriculum development, student mentorship, and community outreach initiatives.
As the current Head of the Department of Community Medicine at our teaching hospital, Dr. Joy Patricia Pushparani continues to lead with dedication, fostering excellence in public health education, research, and service delivery. Her guidance is instrumental in shaping the next generation of socially responsible medical professionals.
