Dr. Rajan Joseph Payyappilly is a highly experienced microbiologist and academician with a long-standing career in medical education and research. He joined our institution in 2023 as Professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology, following his retirement from Government Medical College, Kannur.

Dr. Payyappilly completed his MBBS from St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, one of India’s premier medical institutions. He went on to pursue his MD in Microbiology at Government Medical College, Calicut, which he completed in 1993. In addition to his postgraduate training in microbiology, he also earned a Diploma in Medical Virology (DMV) from the National University of Virology in 1996, further strengthening his expertise in the field of infectious diseases and virology.

Over the span of his career, Dr. Payyappilly has served in various academic and administrative roles across several reputed medical colleges. He has contributed significantly to teaching, diagnostic microbiology, and infection control practices. His leadership in departmental management and his commitment to fostering academic excellence have been widely recognized.

Prior to joining our institution, his last assignment was as Professor of Microbiology at Government Medical College, Kannur, where he played a key role in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education.

As the current Head of the Department of Microbiology at our teaching hospital, Dr. Rajan Joseph Payyappilly brings not only a rich academic background but also decades of hands-on experience. His guidance continues to inspire the next generation of medical professionals and strengthens the institution’s commitment to quality healthcare and education.
