Our Facility

AUDIOLOGY & SPEECH THERAPY

Audiology deals with identifying and evaluating hearing disorders associated with adults, children, or infants. The Audiology Department at PIMS offers diagnostic evaluations to people having hearing difficulties.

Audiology combines medical science with the best available technology to develop concrete solutions to hearing or balance disorders. People who practice audiology are called audiologists, and Audiologists are accountable for managing and recuperation disorders linked to hearing and balance. Here audiologists work with speech and language therapists and ENT doctors to provide comprehensive services for people with hearing disorders. The Speech Therapy department assesses, diagnoses and treats children and adults having difficulty with speech, language and swallowing.

Our panel of speech therapists include specialists who have proven excellence and experience in stroke rehabilitation, neuro-rehabilitation, swallowing difficulties and neurological disorders such as Parkinson's disease and voice disorders.

Diagnostic Services

Clinical Microbiology

  • Clinical Microbiology is a critical diagnostic service within laboratory medicine that focuses on the detection, identification, and characterization of microorganisms responsible for infectious diseases. This includes bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. By providing rapid and accurate diagnosis, Clinical Microbiology supports effective treatment and infection control strategies across healthcare settings.

    Key Functions of Clinical Microbiology:

    1. Detection and Identification of Pathogens
      • Isolates and identifies causative agents of infections from clinical specimens such as blood, urine, sputum, stool, wound swabs, and cerebrospinal fluid.
      • Utilizes both traditional culture methods and modern molecular techniques (e.g., PCR, MALDI-TOF) for fast and precise identification.
    2. Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing (AST)
      • Determines the most effective antibiotics to treat infections.
      • Plays a key role in guiding appropriate antimicrobial therapy and supporting antimicrobial stewardship programs.
    3. Outbreak Investigation and Infection Control
      • Detects hospital- or community-acquired infections and contributes to outbreak surveillance and containment.
      • Works closely with infection control teams to prevent the spread of resistant organisms (e.g., MRSA, C. difficile, carbapenem-resistant bacteria).
    4. Public Health Surveillance
      • Supports national and international efforts to monitor emerging pathogens and resistance trends (e.g., tuberculosis, influenza, COVID-19).
      • Reports notifiable diseases to health authorities for epidemiological tracking and response.
